How does it work for us as a school leading on School Direct?
Falla Park Community Primary School and Dunston Hill Community Primary School are working in partnership with the Gateshead Primary School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) provider to ensure that schools within the Tyneside area have the opportunity to engage with the selection, recruitment and professional development of trainee teachers. By working closely with the SCITT we will be able to offer you an outstanding training experience. This leading provider of initial teacher training has a proven and successful record of supporting the development of new entrants into the profession since 2003 and we are proud to have been closely involved in the programme from the outset.
Each school has been allocated three School Direct (tuition fee) places for the academic year 2017/18 where we will be taking on trainees whose training will be funded through the standard student support package of tuition fee loans, with training bursaries and scholarships available where eligible.
How will this benefit you?
We will recruit trainees that we believe will work best within our school. We will then act as the ‘host school’ in which our trainees will gain experience of the full primary age range as well as have the opportunity to gain qualified teacher status within the 3-7 phase. You will benefit further through high quality professional development opportunities provided by the SCITT and the resources of the University of Northumbria. A designated training room and leading edge resources are provided at Lobley Hill Primary School where the SCITT is based. This School Direct training programme will provide you with as much school based experience as possible which will be personalised to your individual training needs. You will benefit from the ongoing support of a highly experienced professional tutor from within our school and a team of tutors through the SCITT with current experience and expertise in outstanding classroom practice and teacher training. All trainees will have the opportunity to gain a Post Graduate Certificate in Education with sixty credits at Masters Level which is validated through the University of Northumbria. I believe one of the benefits of being a School Direct trainee is that it gives you the opportunity to experience teaching in a range of year groups within one school. This allows you to be fully immersed in the daily routines of that school and understand what it is like to be a teacher, as well as part of a school community. I have had nothing but positive experiences and support in my time on School Direct.
